Value Comparisons
HSN's retail values are based on nationwide information. You may find the same or similar items sold in your community at a price different than our retail value. Retail value is an indication of the price you would pay to purchase the item elsewhere, not the price for which you could sell the item. Call customer service for more information about how the retail value was established.
HSN substantiates all value comparisons advertised on HSNtv and hsn.com. We want our customers to be able to make informed decisions about the values we offer.
Most items sold on HSNtv and hsn.com are advertised with a Manufactured Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) or retail value comparison.
MSRPMSRP is the price at which there have been substantial sales of the product in the marketplace. We often rely on certifications by our suppliers to support MSRP. The MSRP may reflect the total of the prices at which the individual components of the product were sold separately.
When a product has not been offered for sale in the marketplace before being sold on HSN and a national distribution of the product is planned, the MSRP may reflect the planned national distribution price.
Retail ValueThe retail value is established by one of these methods:
- a comparative survey of the price of the same or similar item at retailers in at least four geographical areas
- nationwide catalog ads or online shopping services where the same or similar item has been sold
- customary markup formulas for categories of products normally offered for sale at prices based on customary markup
- the total of the prices at which the individual components of the product are sold separately elsewhere
- the total of the prices at which the individual components of the product have been sold by HSN in the past
HSN substantiates all value comparisons advertised on HSN TV and hsn.com. We want our customers to be informed about the values we offer.
Appraised ValueHSN establishes the represented value of certain items through the appraisal process. The appraisals are issued by independent, professionally certified appraisers. The value set forth on the appraisals is the approximate cost of replacing or recreating the item as closely as possible at the retail level and does not necessarily reflect the price at which the appraised item may be purchased at any particular store. The appraisal process results in an estimate or judgment of value, and therefore the appraised value is somewhat subjective. Estimates of value may vary by up to 25%.
