Reverse: Front elevation view of Jefferson's historic home, with the name "Monticello" beneath it. Inscriptions include "E Pluribus Unum," "United States of America" and "Five Cents"

2005 Jefferson Nickel

Obverse: Close-up, right-facing profile view of President Jefferson. Inscriptions include the word "Liberty" in a script based upon Jefferson's own handwriting, as well as the motto "In God We Trust" and "2005"
Reverse: American bison, Inscriptions included "United States of America," "E Pluribus Unum" and "Five Cents"

Obverse: Forward-facing portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Inscriptions include the word "Liberty" in a script based upon Jefferson's own handwriting, as well as the motto "In God We Trust" and "2006"

  • The 2006 reverse design has been carefully restored by the United States Mint with updated design details including:
    - Facets of the dome of Monticello have been restored
    - The balconies of the building have been reworked
    - Relief has been restored to the detail around the door and windows to reflect more of Felix Schlag's original work
