Features

Dwarf Canna collection
  • Cannas make an excellent backdrop to all daylily plantings
  • They are an easy-to-grow, low-maintenance flower that offers a beautiful show of color all summer
  • Fresh, large (3 to 5 eyes) bulbs arrive ready-to-grow when you receive them
  • Cannas love full sun
  • Best results when planted in loose, fertile, well-drained soil

Dwarf Brilliant Canna
  • Vibrant red flowers contrast with narrow, lance-shaped bright green foliage
  • Provides a touch of the tropics in the garden or patio
  • Medium size makes it perfect for container planting

Dwarf Chinese Coral Canna
  • Rich coral blooms held aloft by strong stems and surrounded by lush green foliage
  • A perfect choice for filling out a perennial bed or border, but also makes a great potted plant

Dwarf Tangelo Canna
  • Zesty orange blooms add a warm, happy glow to your garden
  • Tangelo often blooms early and adds just the right touch of vertical interest whether planted in front of taller plants or behind shorter annuals and perennials

Planting instructions
  • If you cannot plant immediately after receiving these plants, leave in bag, please place them in a cool shady, location (your refrigerator vegetable drawer is best)
  • Cannas bloom best in full sun and require a minimum of four hours of direct sun
  • They tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions
  • Work the soil 12" to 15" deep into a good loose condition
  • Incorporate into the hole a mixture of good garden soil and compost
  • Place the rhizome horizontally in the ground, eye up, if visible. Canna rhizomes don't have a top or bottom, so no worry about placing it upside down. Cover with 2 inches of soil. Be sure to pack the soil well.
  • Water well at the time of planting. Water every three to four days for the first two weeks and then at least an inch of water a week.
  • Apply fertilizer around the plant 2 weeks after planting
  • Place little mulch around the base of the plants

Continuing care
  • Newly set plants need moisture so they can grow a new root system
  • Water at fairly long intervals in dry weather
  • In warmer regions, clumps should be left standing throughout the winter for visual interest and to provide protection for the crowns
  • No pruning necessary, except to remove spent flowers and flower stems. Cut back to the ground in early spring before new growth begins.

Winterizing instructions
  • In colder regions (if you expect the ground to freeze) dig up and dry rhizomes in the early fall before the first frost. Store them in a cool frost-free place in just-moist peat or sand through the winter. If kept bone dry, the rhizomes will shrivel.
  • Replant the following spring after last frost

  • Bulbs very slow starting

Canna lilies are a staple in my gardens in Tucson, Arizona. They usually flourish. I planted these about a month ago, and only 2 have started to grow. I chose to plant these in the front row with other, taller canna behind them. The other bulbs have all sprouted. I am still hoping all of these will sprout...I will revise my rating.
