Features

Giant Hosta Mix collection
  • Produces massive plants that are sure to be conversation-starters
  • Includes some of the largest Hostas available
  • "Empress Wu" variety produces pale reddish-violet flowers with huge, thick, deeply veined dark green leaves that can measure more than a foot wide. Its large leaves are formed while it is young, though the  entire clump can take 5 or more years to reach full maturity. It will form a massive, upright clump that will make an outstanding focal point in your garden.
  • "Humpback Whale" variety produces nearly white flowers and forms a massive, dome-shaped mound of corrugated, blue-green heart-shaped leaves. It appears bluest in the spring. It can take several years to reach maturity, but it is worth the wait.
  • "Komodo Dragon" variety produces light lavender flowers and forms a cascading mound of large, dark green leaves with loosely rippled margins and long petioles. It is a must-have for your Hosta garden!
  • Looks beautiful paired with Coral Bells, Astilbe and Bleeding Heart
  • Grows best in partial to full shade
  • Prefers moist, organic soil
  • Attracts hummingbirds
  • Easy to grow and very adaptable

Planting instructions
  • Work the soil into a good loose condition 8" to 10" deep. In the hole, incorporate a mixture of good garden soil and compost.
  • Remove Hostas from pots.
  • Make a mound in the center of the hole and spread roots around mound. The crown of the plant should be placed at ground level. Work the soil around the roots as you cover the plant. Be sure to pack the soil well.
  • Water well at the time of planting. Water every 3 to 4 days for the first 2 weeks and then at least an inch of water a week.
  • Plant between 5-7 feet apart on each side.
  • Most Hostas do best in the shade or partial shade (no more than 4-6 hours of direct sunlight). They will tolerate morning sun, but not afternoon sun.
  • Hostas grow well at the base of most trees, avoiding nut trees.
  • If you cannot plant immediately after receiving these plants, leave in pot and place them in a cool, shady location.

Continuing care
  • Water every 3 to 4 days for the first 2 weeks and then at least an inch of water a week.
  • Water at fairly long intervals in dry summer months.

Winterizing instructions
  • A light covering of mulch is recommended.
