Planting instructions
  • Peonies bloom best in well-drained soils in full sun but tolerate some shade as long as they have at least a half-day of sunshine
  • Good air circulation around the plant is important
  • If you cannot plant immediately after receiving these plants, leave in bag, please place them in a cool, shady location (your refrigerator vegetable drawer is best)
  • Before planting soak bareroot in water for 4 to 6 hours
  • Space 2 to 4 feet apart depending on the desired effect
  • Never plant peonies back in the same location until you have removed soil that was around the original plant and replaced with new soil
  • Work the soil 18 inches deep into a good loose condition
  • Incorporate into the hole a mixture of good garden soil and compost
  • In Zones 3 and 4, place eyes 2"  deep
  • In Zones 5 and 6, place eyes 1" deep
  • In Zone 7, place eyes just below surface of the soil
  • Work the soil around the roots as you cover the plant. Be sure to pack the soil well.
  • Water well at the time of planting. During the spring months there is usually enough moisture in the ground, but if several weeks pass without rain, give them a good watering once every two weeks. This should also be done during the dry summer months after the peonies have bloomed, to insure a good crop of flowers the following year
  • A little mulch around the base of the plants is recommended

Continuing care
  • Newly set plants need moisture so they can grow a new root system. During the dry summer months, if several weeks pass without rain, give your peonies a good watering once every two weeks. This will insure a good crop of flowers the following year.
  • Remove spent flowers after bloom
  • Cut foliage to the ground and remove from the garden in fall after frost
  • Plants are long-lived, do not need to be divided and can be left undisturbed for years
  • Ants on peony buds are common and totally
  • If plants do not flower, possible causes include: (1) planted too deep or too shallow, (2) planted in too much shade, (3) late frost killed flower buds, (4) plant is too young or has been recently moved or disturbed or (5) the main reason a peony does not bloom is not sufficient cold to initiate bloom

Winterizing instructions
  • Newly planted peonies need a protection for the first winter after planting
  • After the ground has frozen in the fall give them a covering of straw or marsh hay about 3 inches deep
  • Remove this covering very early spring
  • Establish plants need no winter protection

  • Already growing

The Peonies are already sprouting up through the dirt. They got here quickly and were packaged well. Came with instructions. I was so excited that I planted them right away and then reread the instructions and noticed I was suppose to soak the bulbs/roots 3 to 4 hours.

  • Don't Buy These

I received these and followed instructions and on how to plant. I was excited waiting to see them grow. All three that I received just sat there for months with no growth and finally this month they shriveled up. I kept hoping that they would perk up. For the price of these plants, I was hoping for a better product.

  • Dont buy...HSN doesnt stand by item!

Received these quickly. Followed soaking and planting instructions. Two of the three have been growing for three weeks now. The third peony never sent up anything, so I contacted the grower. They quickly replied that they couldnt send another this late and advised me to contact HSN for partial refund. Unfortunately, the refund should have been in excess of $21 but all they could offer me was $13 and change. When I asked why I was told that was all her system would offer. Disappointing.
