Features

Gloxinias Chinese Trumpet Flower collection
  • Incarvillea, also known as a Chinese Trumpet, is a beautiful perennial with low-growing clumps of glossy, deeply divided leaves from which arise 12 " to 24" leafless stems topped by clusters of flowers, each of which may be as much as 3" across
  • Blooming from midspring to midsummer, the large terminal heads of exotic trumpet-shaped flowers in this mix present in a shimmering bright magenta to rosy-pink with yellow throats
  • The flowers sit well above a rosette of dark green foliage on stout stems
  • Plant them in front of other summer bloomers such as lilies and hostas and remove spent flowers as they fade to extend the blooming season
  • Use them as an accent plant or to add a bright splash of color in a border or rock garden
  • They work well along the east side of buildings where they will receive good morning sun, but be sheltered during the winter
  • Space 12" to 15" apart in good well-drained soil in a protected area with full to partial sun
  • Hardy from zone 5 to 9
  • If planted as a group, this collection will fill a 6 to 8 square foot area
  • Don't confuse the plants in this offer with the non-hardy types of potted gloxinias that are sold by florists and specialty shops. Although they make very beautiful house plants, they are in an entirely different plant family than our unique offer.

Planting instructions
  • Gloxinia or Chinese Trumpets work well along the east side of buildings where they will receive good morning sun, but will be sheltered during the winter
  • Dig a hole at least twice as wide and twice as deep as the crown
  • Spread the roots of the plant out and cover with soil
  • Crowns should be buried 1 inch below soil level
  • Firm the soil around the crown
  • Water well

Continuing care
  • These plants require at least 1-inch of rain (or equivalent watering) each week
  • A 2" to 3" layer of mulch will help conserve moisture and keep beds free of weeds and will also maintain an even soil temperature

Feeding instructions
  • Feed your plants with an organic fertilizer to promote superior growth and bloom
  • Discontinue any feeding after September 1 so your plants can harden off for winter dormancy

Winterizing instructions
  • Winter hardy for zones above 5
  • To maintain these plants, mulch the crowns in the winter
  • Remove the mulch after all danger of frost is past
  • Note: Bulbs must be dug out and stored indoors over the winter for zones below 5

  • DISAPPOINTED

Bulbs were sent to me all dried and NO ROOTS ATTACHED. Viedo showed bulbs with LONG ROOTS ATTACHED. Call HSN and was told I could pant bulbs and if no flowers were produced then I could get a refund. Planted them but instruction say to spread roots out. Of course there weren't any attached to the bulbs. Hoping bulbs will produce flowers, if not calling for refund. Flowers should come out in July. This is the first time I ever planted bulb type of flower. Hope I didn't make mistake.

  • Disappoinment

Unfortunately none of the 5 bulbs have even come to life. I don't believe they will grow. Am giving them a couple more weeks and then I will ask for a refund or replacement. They look so very pretty I want them in my perennial garden.
