Allium Flowering Onion Summer Bulbs
  • A spectacular Allium, named to commemorate Independence Day
  • Plant a few bulbs of this cracker and you'll guarantee yourself a fireworks display, that will stretch from May to July
  • You don't need to worry about having space for this specimen either, as this Allium is most at home when it's growing through other plants
  • Bees, butterflies and hummingbirds flock to the spherical purple blooms which are made up of hundreds of tiny, sparkly florets and last for months on end, either in the border or indoors in a vase
  • The bulbs emit a slight onion fragrance too, which you will barely detect, but deer and rabbits may take a wide berth

Planting Instructions
  • Space bulbs by at least twice the bulb's own width apart, when growing in the open ground
  • Dig a hole wide and deep enough for your bulbs and remove any larger stones and weeds
  • As a guide, plant your bulbs at up to 3 times their own depth (for example, a 2" high bulb would be planted 4" to 6" below soil level)
  • Place the bulbs into the hole with the shoot facing upwards
  • Replace the soil around the bulbs and avoid the area so you don't disturb the bulbs

Continuing Care
  • Don't water your bulbs much until you see shoots in the spring
  • When in active growth, water regularly to boost flowering performance

Feeding Instructions
  • As the blooms fade, snip them off to preserve the bulb's energy
  • Once the leaves start to die down, reduce watering again
  • At this time, lift bulbs and store them over winter for the following year, or leave them in the ground

Winterizing Instructions
  • Bulbs are hardy and will not need any special winter care
