Features

Elan Strawberry Kit
  • If you only grow one fruit, make it a strawberry!
  • Berries are high in vitamin C, and by growing your own, you'll experience a remarkable difference in quality and sweetness
  • Elan is also an overbearing variety, so it will crop non-stop through the summer
  • A robust variety, Elan has large, showy blossoms before the fruits and would look great in hanging baskets and window boxes
  • It has been specifically bred for its vigorous habit and prolific, heavy crops from June to October

Planting instructions
  • The Elan Strawberry is an ideal plant to grow in a hanging planter or container
  • Plant in well-drained soil that is rich in organic material
  • Tip: Soak the roots of the plant in water for 2 hours prior to planting
  • Dig a hole at least twice as wide and twice as deep as the bare-root strawberry plant, making sure to loosen the surrounding soil. Spread the roots of the plant out and cover with soil. Crowns should be buried level with the soil level. Firm the soil around the crown. Gently water the plants well.

Continuing care
  • Never let your new transplants dry out, especially if grown in containers
  • Your strawberry plants require 1" of rainfall (or equivalent watering) each week
  • In containers exposed to full sun you will have to water at least every other day during periods of extreme heat, and possibly even every day
  • A 2" to 3" layer of mulch will help conserve moisture and keep beds free of weeds. It will also maintain an even soil temperature.

Feeding instructions
  • Feed your plants with an organic fertilizer, whether your soil is of poor texture or a rich, well-drained garden loam
  • Do not fertilize once the plants begin flowering
  • Discontinue any feeding after September 1

Winterizing instructions
  • For cold weather climates, cover with a 1" to 2" layer of mulch once the temperature reaches freezing
  • Hardy in ground in zones 4 through 9
  • During winter months when temperatures fall below freezing, move your strawberry pots into an unheated garage or a cool basement and water enough to keep soil from drying out
  • You can also move them to the south side of your foundation and cover with a mulch of leaves. The warmth of the location increases the hardiness of such pots by 1, sometimes 2 zones. Then remove the mulch as the weather warms in the spring and bring your planter out into the sun and fertilize.

  • Strawberry plants..yes...plants!

I was a bit torn about ordering these. Been fooled before by other companies. Well, they arrived, and as promised. Beautiful healthy plants in time for season. Some suckers already . They are thriving in their hanging pot and make our deck look alive and homey.

  • Healthy plants

I ordered these strawberries and planted them in hanging baskets. So far they did not die. They did not have any runners on them. Not sure when I will see buds for berries. Do I need runner to get flowers? My neighbor got these the same day as me and her's has 2-3 runners on each plant. I would give it a 5 star if mine had runners.
