Historic silver coin
  • At the end of the American Revolution, Spain, the largest colonial power in the New World, held almost half of what is currently the United States
  • To concentrate his power, King Charles III of Spain ordered an infusion of hard currency into the local economy
  • On January 11, 1784, the Spanish Brig of War El Cazador set sail from Veracruz, Mexico for the port of New Orleans with a cargo of 90% silver coins, mostly 8 Reales (8R) but also denominations of 1/2R, 1R, 2R and 4R
  • Had the El Cazador made it to New Orleans, the history of the United States may have been radically different; but the ship never arrived
  • This huge loss forced King Charles to sell most of Spain's territory to France, which then sold the territory to the US as the Louisiana Purchase, doubling the size of the United States
  • In 1993, fishermen aboard the humble trawler Mistake snagged their nets on some debris on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico and were shocked to find silver coins in the nets; they'd found the El Cazador!

Pillar design
  • Minted between 1732 and 1772, Pillars are the rarest coins recovered from El Cazador

Genuine Spanish currency
  • Used as legal tender in the United States until 1857

Certified NGC Genuine
  • Certified as a genuine shipwreck recovery coin from the El Cazador by a third-party coin-grading company

Encapsulated in a sealed plastic slab
  • Protect the coin's condition while letting you safely display it
