Boston Tea Party Proof 250th Anniversary Silver Coin and Tea Bags
On December 16th, 1773, a cold winter's day in Boston gave way to a clear evening, with a thin crescent moon casting a weak light over the harbor. The new moon meant that the boats moored around the docks sat low in the water, weighed down further still by the valuable cargos in their holds. Under cover of darkness and pale moonlight, the Sons of Liberty dumped 342 chests of East India Company tea into the harbor waters to protest a series of taxes on the colonies. There was no violence and no confrontation between the rebels and the ships' crews. No one was harmed, yet around 46 tons of tea were tipped into Boston Harbor that night, enough for 18 million cups. This educational and tasty way to experience and commemorate this event in American history has a limited edition of 5,000.
