2012 National Parks Program releases
  • Beginning in 2010, the United States Mint will issue 56 quarter-dollar coins featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites as part of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program
  • Quarters will be issued in the order that they were first established as a national site.
  • The program is expected to continue through 2022 and may be extended by the United States Mint
  • The 5 quarters to be released in 2012 will honor El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, Chaco Culture National Historic Park in New Mexico, Acadia National Park in Maine, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii and Denali National Park in Alaska
  • Similar in design and principle to the state quarters
