Hello Sewing Friends,
It’s hard to believe that we’re in September. As we transition into fall, our thoughts stray from the withering summer heat to pumpkin carving fun just ahead. We will be on air every week for the entire month of September celebrating the National Month of Sewing. Each week we’ll be introducing a new product to add to your sewing arsenal
New Items: The first week of September will debut the OTT-LITE task lamp with the HSN exclusive clear view ‘art window’. Using a cool temperature Ott-Lite is like bringing natural daylight indoors and will help you see details with more clarity and match colors more accurately without tiring, yellow glare. I have one in every room of my house!
I am excited to be presenting my brand new Melrose Canvas Grocery Bags. They are blank pallets ready for customization with your favorite embroidery or appliqué. Stock up now for holiday gift giving and live green at the same time!
SINGER is offering a new Curvy Computerized Sewing Machine (the cousin to our recent Today’s Special). This electronic machine has 30 built in patterns, the Swift Smart threading system, a One-Touch needle threader and the Drop and Sew bobbin. When you couple that with a ‘stay Bright LED light’ and extra bonus feet you have a winning sewing combination that will last for years.
White has their newest model of Sew E-Z in saturated deep rich winter colors. Expect the usual bevy of accessories. Look for this gift-giving powerhouse the last week of September.
New Projects: I just returned from two days in Tennessee at the Singer World Headquarters where I had the pleasure of working with customer service expert Vivian Lavinskas. Vivian has been with Singer Co. for over 30 years and she shared a bundle of serger tips that I couldn’t wait to pass on to you. For those of you that have a serger, feel free to copy this for your sewing room and for those of you who don’t, what in the world are you waiting for?
Embroidery Tips: Embroidery machines that accept upgrades in the way of additional software add versatility to your embroidery experience. One of the machines that we offer has the ability to add on additional software. The Singer Futura can utilize Autopunch, Hyperfont, Auto Cross Stitch and Photostitch. All of these software options are easy to use because they have a “Wizard” screen that takes you step by step. Today let’s take a look at Autopunch.
Autopunch is the most popular embroidery sewing software program from Singer that allows you to convert digital images into stitched embroidery designs. It is easy to use (assuming you can remember where you stored your digital artwork) because there is an Autopunch Wizard that takes you through each step of the editing process. If you can read and click a mouse, you’re well on your way to embroidering thousands of designs that are unique and personal!
- After you have installed the software package, click on Create in your upper menu bar. A dropdown menu will appear --- select Autopunch. This is the digitizing software that will convert digital artwork into embroidery.
- When wizard comes up click Next
- Click Select---go to file folder where clip art is stored. Double click on your chosen Clip art
- Select Next
- Crop if desired and select Next
- Convert to inches to make sure design will fit inside the dimensions of your hoop. Make adjustments and select Next
- Click suggest to see your colors and select Next
- Scroll through colors and remove or shift the sewing order if preferred select Next
- Choose Column/Satin/Edgewalk underlay for the first time.
You may alter this choice as you become more familiar Then click Next and on the next page, click Finish
- Now your design should appear in the hoop on your computer screen. Trace design (V-shaped icon in upper right corner with basting stitch around it) to determine the positioning on your project. Transmit design (small sewing machine icon upper far right) and stitch it out!
Tips:
- Remember to use stabilizer. I usually use the sticky stabilizer to avoid hooping. Just peel and stick to the underside of the hoop, trim away any excess corners sticking up and lay your project on the sticky part inside the hoop. Peel all of it away when your design is complete.
- Remember to do the “thread floss dance” around that upper first thread guide. If your machine stitches a little and beeps at you, check to make sure the thread is nestled securely under the metal plate. If not, do the dance again!
- You’ll want your embroideries to be dazzling so use my Melrose 40 weight tri-lobal polyester thread for best results. It’s super strength, saturated color sheen, less stretch and no color loss through washings make it the smartest choice. Stock up with brilliant colors today!
September Sewing Schedule: September 6 --- 6am & 5pm September 12 --- 7am & 6pm September 19 --- 6am & 5pm September 24 --- 7am September 25 --- 6am & 9am & 3pm
