The top plate does fall out.You have to be careful. I snapped it in and gently lowered to top.I taped Wolfgang's show,so I knew how to use it.My husband insisted I try it to see if it worked.It actually grills quite nicely I washed the plates, snapped them back in and turned the machine on for 15 min.Then I sprayed the plates(while they were hot)with pam. I'll use it tomorrow to see if the plates hold up literally. If not, back it goes. To bad.This should have been designed much better.

Top plate falls out

Got it today and it is already in the box to go back. I am so disappointed in this. The top plate falls out when lowered. I did exactly as the instructions said and it will not stay in.

Just got mine today. Cooked chicken patties for lunch, and rubens for supper. YUMO! Works great, no problems, and now the removable plates are in the dishwasher..BONUS!

I too received mine today and the top plate will not stay on. It is the cutest little thing, but I am disappointed I have to spend S & H just to find a defective product. I guess i'll order the big one at another time.

For the reviewer with the drip cup problem, look at the picture in the manual. It goes under the drip spout at the front left. For those with top plate problems, I can't help you. Mine works as advertised. I've never owned a George Forman but I can't imagine one of those being better than this. Love the fact that the plates are removable and dishwasher safe. There are only two of us in this household so the size is perfect.

Received mines today and it came broke.I was so disappointed cause I was looking forwrd to making grill chicken tonight. I called HSN and they will be shipping out another one for me..

top plate DOES stay in place / , NY

This is a great grill for one or two people. I have had NO problems with the plates staying in place...all you have to do is listen for the "click"...then they are in place. It is also very clear where the drip cup goes...just put it under the drain slot under the bottom plate. This grills steaks to perfection in 4 minutes. The plates heat evenly.

JUST RECEIVED MY PANINI, I LOVE IT, IT WORKS JUST AS SHOWN ON DEMOSTRATION. VERY SIMPLE TO USE. I DONT UNDERSTAND THE OTHER REVIEW REGARDING THE UPPER PLATE COMING OUT. JUST MAKE SURE IT IS IN CORRECTLY. OR BETTER YET JUST READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. THANKS WOLFGANG FOR MAKING THIS MACHINE SO SIMPLE.

I love my large grill but needed a smaller one. When I saw this I did not hesitate to order it. It took a minute to get the hang of the plates but once I saw how to seat them it was easy. My first try went perfectly. If I had to say there was something I did not like about the grill I would have to say please add an on/off switch. I hate pulling a plug out of the wall when the grill is still on.
