Efficient, but very loud. / , MI   2/1/2009
Appears to be efficient in cleaning the air, but it is so loud that I was unable to sleep, and it was purchased primarily for the bedroom. Also, the cost of the prefilter was much more than I expected. $88. each year. Returned.

Theses arrived a few days ago & I must say they are not loud. My fridge & ac/heating unit are louder. I kind of hoped they were, since I run a fan at night for white noise. I can hardly hear these. It's a vey slight hum. As far as how well they work, I will have to wait to see. My husband has the allergies & is out of state now.

WORKS GREAT! & SO FAST. OF COURSE AIR IS COOL...IT DOESNT CLAIM TO BE AN AIR HEATER! BUT AN AIR CLEANER.. IT HAS A FAN TO PUSH OUT THE CLEAN AIR....WHEN I WANT TOTAL SILENCE I RUN IT FOR A BIT ON TURBO; THEN SHUT IT OFF... HERE IN ARIZONA, ALLERGIES EXIST FOR US YEAR ROUND. NOT "NOISEY" MY CAT SNORES LOUDER THAN IT IN SLEEP MODE. WHAT I HEAR IS WHITE NOISE...IT IS CLAMING. THIS IS MY 2nd SET OF HUNTER PURIFIERS. SO PLEASED IT NOW HAS PERMA FILTERS.

I purchase 6 of Hunter PermalLife Air Purifiers, they are working wonderful! I do not understand why everyone is upset about the noise, they are NOT very loud!I can't even hear them on the sleep mode and even on high it's not a problem! I've had mine on turbo for the first few days, and couldn't believe how much dust, dog hair, etc, was collected in the filter! When the purifiers go on sale again , I will be purchasing 4 more for each room in my home!

This is a wonderful product! I do not understand all the negative reviews about it blowing cold air. It is not a heater. If the air in your house is cold that is what is going to come out of it. It is not sold as a heater! The product works great, You can barely even hear it on the night mode.

I like how these purifers work they really do elimenate most ordors and my house smell clean and fresh. But...the on-air description stated these were very quiet but I don't agree. I find them to be quite loud and I even have shut them off just so I can sleep.

Poor Quality and NOT eligible for easy return! / , CA   1/28/2009
First off, the purifiera blow out cold air. I just did not expect this. I was expecting fresh air but not cold. Given that it's winter, it's probably a bigger issue for me than most. Second, it's louder than expected, even on sleep mode, so my family didn't want it in their bedrooms. And, third, the purifiers do not qualify for EZ return so if you don't like it, you have to pay to ship it back and it's very expensive! Not worth the money.

I really needed some fresh air in my home. The air is cold that comes out but I just turn down the speed or turn up the heat. I live in Minnesota,and I know what cold is. I am very satisfied with these, but people have to remember that they are not going to be effective in a huge home, I had to put both in my living room, dining room. When I first got them I put one in the bedroom and the other in living room, having both in this big space works much better. I am happy with my purchase.

Need an extra air conditioner!! / , NY   1/25/2009
Received 1/6. DR unit running 24/7 on the 2nd lowest setting sounds like my hair dryer. BR unit on sleep mode sounds like air conditioner on low. BR unit cannot stay on because it blows out cold air. With 6 degrees outside, winter air conditioning is not needed. Filter checks showed some accumulation but the noise is driving me nuts!! Sending back.

I am really enjoying my air purifiers. After 2 weeks my white filters were already grey. My house is 85 yrs old and somewhere in its history it has had a smoker in it. These have eliminated that smell so I may just have to order 2 more so everyone has one in their bedroom. I don't think they are that noisy. For me they are worth it to keep my family healthy.
