A place to learn and be heard

Hello Sewing Friends,

I’m writing to you from beautiful Toronto Canada. The leaves are turning vibrant colors and the air is crisp and cool. The harvest is here and it’s clearly the season for Thanksgiving celebrations. The month of November has always been a reminder for me to be thankful. With the gathering of friends and family it’s the perfect time to show an extra measure of gratitude. What better way to express appreciation to our loved ones than with an act of a sewing service? Be sure to check out our monthly projects for instructions on how to make a “Cherish Friends and Family” table runner, a ‘Cutie Patootie’ felted purse, a “Leather Basket Weave” book cover  and a novelty ‘Pamper the Chef’ apron.

This month we have oodles of new products to introduce to you.

Mark your calendars for November 19th when a new Singer Today’s Special is revealed. My pastor’s daughter is getting married at the end of December and I’ll be showing the FOUR embroidered flower girl dresses that I designed and made for Kaitlyn’s special day. I’ll also be wearing various designer look alikes that I made with the TS offering.

For all of you that picked up on a computerized sewing machine, I hope that you’ve been experimenting with the beautiful stitches and versatile functionality that today’s machines offer. Their ease of use and assortment of patterns and presser feet make them a worthwhile investment for all your sewing needs. Following are a few tips and tricks to help make your next project with a computer machine even better!

COMPUTER SEWING TIPS:

  1. AUTO TENSION is for straight stitching only.
  2. DECREASE tension for decorative stitches
  3. INCREASE tension for Pin-Tucking
  4. AUTO BUTTONHOLES are made in one easy step
Line up the red mark on the buttonhole foot to the bottom of where you want the buttonhole to stitch. The Singer exclusive underplate prevents puckering and enables you to make buttonholes in hard to maneuver areas such as cuffs or collars.
WHEN TO WATCH:
November 19th - 12am, 1am, 5am, 7am, 8am, 11am, 12pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm
November 25th - 5pm
November 26th - 7am, 3pm
November 27th - 2pm
November 28th - 2am

WHERE TO GO:
The Original Sewing and Quilt Expo in November
Minneapolis, MN   November 5-7
Chicago, IL (Schaumburg)   Nov 12-14
I hope you enjoy your holiday and make time to try out a few of my new projects.  Drop me a line to crow about your repurposing sewing adventures and shared creative time with a friend or loved one. .. Reuse an outdated drapery to make a new slipcover, reuse an old bed spread  by fashioning into pillows or turn last season’s  leather  jacket into this year’s prized vest! It’s all up to YOU. I know that you CAN do it!

I hve the Singer Quantum Futura $799.00 that you were demo-ing yesterday on HSN. I do not have the 5 hour tutorial for the machine and was wondering if you can purchase this DVD. My sister purchased the machine just a few months prior to her death and she gave it to me. I would love to use it and have all the stuff that you showed, but could really use the DVD to help me get started.

I order the TSV. When embroidering do I have to change the needle or can I use what was on the machine. The Melrose thread kept breaking especially in the bobbin case. Have you had this occur.

As Darlene keeps saying, check all nooks and spaces of your sewing machine packing as your parts are stuffed in these for safe shipping. Also PLEASE keep your box and all shipping materials, if your machine has to be sent back or to a repair service these are the best and only way to ship them safely.

I must say that I'm disappointed in that the only real sewing presentation was on the 19th while the other dates were the very small presentation of the white mini sewing machine. I might not buy a machine or sewing item every time you are on, but I learn something new. I while back, during the summer, I learned about the quick way to quilt with the iron-on grid to create a waterfall quilt. What a beauty you did. Please take in mind that people watch to learn as well to buy!!

Orded the SES1000 and the general, blind hem, zipper, button foot, satin foot, buttonhole foot and other parts were missing. I just wanted you to be aware. Now I have to return this huge box back. Maybe someone should check to make sure all parts are included. Enjoy watching you on HSN.

Happy/safe holidays. Me beginner again. Have not been on a machine for long, long time. To get me started again, I just purchased the Plus Singer. Love it! Will work on that until I am ready for beautiful expert machine. Next time Singer in on HSN! Excited already. Getting thread next month to split costs. Would have got $30 kit if I knew only $60 was offered. Next time you make an offer for novice could you send cheap yard of material/recommend that we work with old pillow cases. Thanks

I would like to see more quilting projects and features offered. On the main quilting page there are only items not anything near the sewing main page has. Incorporating more quilting into the HSN lineup.
