In the Dutch harbor towns of the 19th century, a bride-to-be, as soon as she knew her wedding date, began to knit her fiance a sweater. By this sweater, through its motives and colors, it would be known throughout the North Atlantic as a native of his home port. Our version of the fisherman's sweater is rich in motive: of harpoons, heads and great waves, of dragnets, and hawsers, rendered in a soft blend of ramie and cotton, pigment dyed and enzyme-washed for a great play of texture and color.
