The trick was to create a shearling jacket
unencumbered by the typical bulkiness and ho-hum utilitarian designs that
afflict most of the species. The answer, we discovered, was a matter of ponying
up for the elevated finery of Spanish shearling, a sumptuous, specially
cultivated mountain-bred wool that offers the same natural warmth and insulating
benefits of its counterparts but in a leaner, far more refined skin. This is the
handsome result: field coat-styled with quarter-inch raised seams at panel
joints, five-button front, two patch hip pockets, 4 cuffs, an open, vented
waist, and horn-style buttons.
