FIG and APPLE CRISP
Serving Size: 6
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups dried black Mission figs, stems removed and diced
1/4 cup applejack or brandy
3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces and chilled
3/4 cup pecans, toasted and coarsely chopped
2 pounds Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1/2 inch thick
Whipped Cream, for garnish
Directions
  1. Combine the figs and applejack in a large bowl and let stand 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. To make the Topping, whisk 3/4 cup of flour, 3/4 cup of sugar and spices together in a medium bowl. Using a pastry cutter, a fork or your fingertips, blend in the butter until the mixture forms moist clumps. Stir in the pecans.

  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Butter an 8 x 8 x 2-inch glass baking dish.

  4. Mix together the apples, 2 tablespoons of flour and 2 tablespoons of sugar into the figs. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with the topping. Bake for 40 minutes, then cover loosely with foil and continue to bake until the apples are very tender, about 20 minutes longer.

  5. Spoon the crisp into bowls and top with whipped cream or ice cream.
