Help Your Hair Recover from Winter Damage

Hello once again, Beauty Buffs! First, let me say thank you for your response to my new Beauty Blog. I am thrilled that we have a place to come together and discuss all of our beauty finds and concerns. We are one another’s best beauty resource.

While spring may be just around the corner, it still feels like winter. So, let’s talk about what winter has done to our hair.

Does your hair look dry? Feel brittle? How about that static? Are you consistent with your regular hair care routine and yet the final result just doesn’t look like quite right? We can thank Old Man Winter for that. There is a lot we can do. It’s all in the product.

First, if your hair is beginning to feel dry, don’t let the situation get out of control. Start deep conditioning immediately. A dramatic cut can be as little as a few unwanted inches because of split, dry ends. Be proactive.

Deep conditioning once a week is a must. Apply your conditioner. Then, wrap a hot, wet towel over your hair followed by a supermarket plastic bag to hold in the heat and clip it in place. It looks ridiculous…but adding heat to your deep conditioner is a must. The final step is to rinse with cool water.

I wanted to call out Oscar Blandi’s Pure Brilliance and Shine (Luce), a former Host Pick of mine. It effortlessly restores shine to your hair. Incorporate it into your deep conditioning treatments. It is a customer pick for a reason! Your hair will have that ‘just colored’ feeling and will be so manageable. And the shine defies the season! You would never know there is still snow on the ground.

Second, you don’t have to wash your hair every day. Without the humidity and heat, we can actually get away with it. Over-shampooing can strip natural oils from hair, which can make it even more prone to dryness. When you do wash, incorporate a hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Alternate with your regular shampoo. If you have fine, limp hair, concentrate conditioner mainly on your ends. Your daily hair care regime is as vital as your daily skin care regime. Quality products make a difference in your hair. If your hair is in great shape, everything you do with it will look so much better.

Third, if your hair is full of static, spray some anti-static spray on your brush and then run it through your hair. It is a simple tip, but it really works. And, if you are really in a pinch, run a dryer sheet over your hair.

Spring weather will be here before you know it. In the mean time, start taking control of your hair today.

Diana, left a post earlier re: TBrattin's LaLaLa Layers pony being out of stock for so long. I see now it's back in stock, albeit in handfuls only of each color. Thank you if you had any input/influence in making this happen! Reminding also that her Layered Flip Ponytail 728-942, also an all-time best seller, is still out of stock except for grays. Summer is coming and we need our ponies! Thanks.

I use SCA products, having trouble now to determine which is best moisturizer and skin care to use. What is the best to use I have some fine lines and wrinkles, nothing excessive. I do not use the fillers and coverup make up. Mainly moisturizers and the Vitamin C Capsules and the new once a week Rapid Transport. Several new products make it hard to determine which to use. Is there a guide to which products to you based on the condition of the skin?

I love SCA French Vanilla line, her meltdown smells so good when you take your make off. I also would like Adrienne to bring back her French Vanilla body cream and her hair gel and spray.

I love the Signature Club A haircare products and have used them for years but they are hardly ever on the website these days. The over 40 shampoo/conditioner could use just a light touch of fragrance but other than that it is the best I've found regardless of price. When will they be back?

Is SCA leaving? I love the products and then they don't come back. My favorites were the topaz and crystal facets. I am out of the 5 essentials cream and was forced to buy a kit just to get it :( I also loved a large finishing power that never came back. Please bring back the good stuff.

What are your real true favorite skin care products? I know you show hosts have to act excited about all the different lines that you sell, but there must be the special ones that you do use personally, not just for the sales pitch. Are you required to try all of them (SSC, SCA, Wei East, for example)? I would like to see a monthly review section posted with each hosts personal pick. Bobbi could represent her age group, Colleen hers, Diana yours, and so on. It would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi Diana, I know you are too busy to relay all these messages but if anyone could please let Jennifer and C.C. from SSC know that we do like their make up but the heavy rose fragrance has got to go. Almost all the customers who review the SSC make up that was sold the other weekend complain about it. Toss the rose fragrance, and we are golden!

Toni Bratton's new Tan Secret Gel far surpasses any self-tanner I've ever used. It's so natural-looking. I recommend it to anyone & esp if self-tanning has been a chore for you. Diana, there's been this issue of Toni's VERRRY LONG delays in restocking (if ever) her most popular ponies, ie, LaLaLa Layers and Layered Flip. Both are among her all-time successes, but it can take up to a year to restock. Hair should be restocked to replace worn pieces & sales IS bottom line, right? Can you assist?

Diana it upsets me when I have spent thousands of dollars on skin care from HSN over the past 15 or so years. I have tried every brand that is offered on HSN and I can truly say I cannot see a difference in any of the products that firm and lift or even makes your skintone even. I am 63 years old and I think Suzanne Sommers is the only truthful individual when she states you must firm up the muscles in your face not try and lift the face with serums and creams. The others should be as honest.

To answer previous customer question regarding the tantowels . . . I bought them when they were a today's special and returned them. Your hands will turn orange, as will the rest of your body. If you miss a spot, prepare to be streaked the next day. For anyone wondering, HSN sells way better self tanners, I currently use Toni Brattin Tan Secrets. Love it.

I like Lauren Hutton's face disk and I just ordered her Trick Treatment Spots and Shadow with 24/7 SPF Mist. I have dark sun spots like Lauren shows us on her face disc instruction disk. However, I can't completely comouflage them. Her's seem to be completely concealed. I have used her concealers and tricks. What does she do to really hide the dark sun spots?

Please have Adrienne bring back the original version of her morning pearl caviar cream. The tint of color she has added does not look natural alone or under make-up. This used to be an excellent product. So many of the Signature Club A products seem to be disappearing. I no longer use Serious Skin Care because of the same problem.

Will Signature Club A (Adrienne)ever bring back the Fragrance Burst Body Spray? She normally sold it with the French Vanilla Melt Down. She has not had it since fall/winter of 2004.

Diana, I saw your presentation of TanTowels and I have one major question. I have used self-tanners in the past and it is very difficult to keep the palms of your hands from tanning. Is there any difficulty using the TanTowels? My niece is getting married in April and, while I live at the beach in North Carolina, it is still a little to cold to get out to get much sun. Please tell me that the TanTowels won't tan the palms of my hands.

Hi Diana,LOVE LOVE LOVE HIKU. The Oasis is a godsend for my hair. I have also used Oscar Blandi Olio but definately prefer the Oasis Elixir. The Mask as been true lifesaver for my overstressed locks, and has actually made them younger looking my decades. Thanks for letting others know about this fabulous line!

Hi Diana! I think you are the most beautiful woman on HSN and have a great personality and I always seem to buy when you are hosting! My last buy with you was Toni's Tan Gel and let me tell you, that is the best self tanner in the world I am so happy with it. Thank you for the quick tips for hair static. My boyfriend has real long curly hair and it is a careless mess, I wish he would read your blog!! I'm going to run a dryer sheet through his head and make him mad now!! Love ya Diana!!

Oscar Blandi's Olio di Jasmin serum is also amazing. I have very fine hair that gets weighed down easily but the ends look ratty if I don't use a leave-in. I use this every day and my hair looks beautifully hydrated and shiny. The ends look healthy like right after I get a cut and it does NOT weigh my fine hair down at all in fact I find it holds a style better!
