Happy Anniversary Month!

I cannot believe I have been bringing you “Mine Finds” on HSN for 14 years! I have to thank each and every one of you for making my job so much fun!

This month is extra special for lots and lots of reason. We will be presenting the infamous Jay King Sculptured Bowl this month. I am so excited for you to receive your bowl. Please make sure to tune in and watch the show, so that you can see the footage of the artisans making the bowls – these are a “true” labor of love.

We have several new “Mine Finds” that we are presenting in our October Show. I have had a lot of requests for extra information on where the stones come from and I am going to share that information with you here – so you will have it for your reference.

Mined in the USA:

Idaho Marble – This material is Black and white marble, which is a high quality dense form of limestone. Limestone under extreme pressure and metamorphic changes creates marble. This material comes from a location above the Salmon River in Idaho.

Strawberry Onyx – This was brought to us from one of our favorite “rock hounds” who searches the southwest for unique and different minerals. He has been trekking for over 40 years and knew that he had found something special – when he stumbled upon this onyx. This stone is from one large boulder weighing over 500 pounds.

Gecko- This material was found in the area of Lake Havasu, Arizona – the miner pulled over on the side of the road for a quick “pit stop” and discovered the stone sticking up out of the ground. He quickly ran back to his truck for a shovel and a pick and the rest is history.

White Snake Skin Jasper- This stone was discovered in an area in North Western Arizona that is known for its wild burro’s. The burro’s where very curious and helpful when the miner was mining this material. This material is named for its beautiful white and tan appearance.

I have just returned from what is becoming an annual trip to Europe. I will share many new design inspirations I had while on my trip over the upcoming months. One of my favorite things about visiting Europe is the amount of history – I can never get enough of it.

As you can tell we have pulled out all of the stops for our 14th anniversary show. You will not even believe the Today’s Special we have planned for you! Please tune on October 3rd, 4th and 5th. Take care and safe travels. J

You’re correct on Alunite. We do enhance the color in this case. I’ve seen it in purple once before though. I buy carnelian all the time. When I can get the natural color I want then I get it. Unfortunately this is not always the case. So you just have to watch. Thanks for your support. J

Pat, CA I have worked in gold in the past, but I really can't with HSN. Probably the only way to do this is find the stone and have it custom made. I would cut you a stone but don't have any rough at this point in time. J

Kathi, AZ Yes we have run several designs in #8. The mine has been closed since the 70's so it is hard to get. J

Love, TX As always I hear you. Finding a quality clip-on finding is the issue. We have been working on it. I have done clips in the past, but after wearing them for a while they tend to get loose and fall off, creating lots of problems. J

Turquoise Bowls
We want to thank all of you for tuning in and watching our 14th anniversary show. This was our first release of a new line of decorative designs in stone. We are working on many new and unique designs at this time and you will see them in the future. I want to assure all of you that we will have the first Jay King Sculptured bowl available again on HSN. I want to stress to everyone that this was our first attempt at a decorative item and when we started working on the original release we did not realize what the response would be. I want to assure you that this bowl will be made available in the future – but at this time the Artists are busy working on the order for the November release. We have increased the order, so that there will be plenty of bowls to go around. I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that these are handcrafted one at a time in the USA and each bowl takes 1 – 2 days to make. I want to wish a sincere apology to each of you that missed out on the first release, but again rest assured that the bowls will be made available again just as soon as we can get them. Problem is finding a clip-on finding that will solve the test of time. I thought I had this licked when I came up with a magnetic finding. I even tested it out, one ear only. They were great except when you answered the phone they fell off. Problem is after using them several times they loosen up and fall off. Usually the customer only looses one side. Dear Jay, HELP!!!! I've missed out on the 3-row Sodalite Necklace that aired on HSN back in October, 2008. Believe it or not, I've searched every web site imaginable but no luck. I like to hear about Idar-Oberstein as my husband stayed there for 6 months and the kids and I stayed for 2 months (1987). My prized lapis ring is from there. Hi Jay, I LOVE the TSV amethyst necklaces but was wondering if you have any rough to make a 3 strand bracelet to match. I would love one with a silver toggle clasp. I have both of the bracelets with the silver magnetic clasp and love them but I know others say they have problems. I find that if I wipe off the magnets with a soft cloth each time and am sure they are closed correctly I can wear them all day at work with no problem. Thanks for the beautiful pieces.

Jay, I love your jewelry and have many pieces. I particularly enjoy when you make a necklace 20 inches or more, thank you. I have one request. I always like to purchase necklaces and earring together. However, the earrings that are made with a french hook wire are soooo thin, the weight of the gemstone pulls my ear and is painful. It almost feels like it's going to rip my ear!. Can't the weight of the silver be a little more, so the wire has more thickness? Please.

Love your line.- One suggestion.- Is there any way to improve the bail in your charms? most of them are a plain triangle that look kind of flimsy and out of place for the bold and beautiful stones. I would like to suggest that you make some more stand-alone, bold rings, i.e., black agate and/or carnelian. I did not get a bowl, but I still considerate myself very lucky. I was able to get 5 beautiful pieces from from Jay King's anniversary collection. I would like to know if Mr. King would have the bowls in turquoise and also in lapis on his next show? What size would they be? Count on me to place an order for 4 bowls for Christmas. I still BELIEVE in Santa. Keep up bringing does gorgeous pieces I would continue buying.

Hello, Jay! I am addicted to your fabulous linear earrings and have many pairs. I wanted to order the turquoise and tiger's eye pair(#525-246); sadly, I missed out on it. Is there any chance that you may have more in the future? What a classy look they have. Anything that includes blue turquoise, as do these, catches my eye every time. I too thought I was one of the lucky ones to have successfully ordered the beautiful bowl only to have HSN sneakily cancel my order a few days later. Jay I don't blame you, I understand how labor intensive this creation process is and that a limited number were available. I am very angry at HSN, and the way they handled this situation. HSN should be offering something to us if they are at all concerned about keeping their valued customers. Afterall, there are lots of other places to shop!

Jay I have been watching you for years. But I can't understand that if you can make dangling earrings for pierced ears, why you can't make earrings for non-pierced. It is so frustrating to get a great and one of a kind necklace and then try to match it to something in the marketplace. It's just not the same. So I have not brought anything new because I just don't want to wear plain silver or gold earrings. And not just button earrings but dangle earrings that looks great with long hair.

Happy Anv. Jay, I love your large polished bead necklaces the most. I got a green turq. one a couple years ago, and even a flight attendant wanted it!! I told her where to buy one. I got the turq. three strand bracelet in green, two of them, and both broke at the clasp. The wire is too short for me to repair. It is too late to return to HSN, and I have kept both, but can't wear either. Please advise me on this!! Thank you.

Jay: I preordered the Freeform Turquoise Cuff and Sleeping Beauty Ring by telephone on 9-29-09. The HSN operator did not process the order. Today, I found out I will not receive either item. I am greatly disappointed since this would have been my FIRST purchase of Sleeping Beauty turquoise. Happy Anniversary, Jay! I ordered the micro opal and turquoise doublet and the blue lapis flower necklace online before you even presented them on TV. I knew they would sell out. On the last day of your visit I decided that I had to have the silver leaf and turquoise necklace, which I ordered, but was too late for the matching elongated silver leaf earrings. Will you be bringing more of these in to HSN? I hope so. They make a great stand alone piece of jewelery.

Well I watched and watched and waited but nothing came on HSN. When I finally called again on Oct. 4th and was told the bowls sold out...I was devasted! Where did everyone go to find one?

Congrats of 14 years! I can't thank you enough for the wonderful things you bring to us, I was thinking of the 100+ pieces that I have and what I NEED :) First I would LOVE a Lake Victoria Jasper ring to go with the two necklaces and earrings that I have. I know the long necklace is a customer pick, so I am thinking there would be more people out there who would want one too. Dear Jay: I enjoy all of your presentations and learning about the different pieces, where they come from etc, and I too am disappointed that I missed out on the bowl but more importantly the presentation on how it is made. But as someone who is very interested in geology I am more interested in the chunk of turquoise rock that you had next to the bowl; is there a way to buy some of the mined rocks or bits that you can't use to make jewelry? Wow - what an awesome show. I got the tiger eye pieces, they look beautiful. Also I got the lapis ring and maybe you will make a long strand of beads to go with. In all the years I have been watching I haven't seen strands of lapis like the other stones you work with. At one time you offered to replace the old necklace clasps and put the hooks on them. However, I don't feel it's right that someone can steal an item out of my shopping bag while I'm in the process of loading it up. This is what happened with Item # 524-712 the amethyst enhancer. When I saw the silver leaf earrings, I was certain you had done them especially for me! With so much stone in your necklaces, the silver earrings provide a bright contrast for the eye. I have seen a flattened wire in the front so that the wire looks more substantantial/finsihed and covers the hole in your ear.

Just a note to say how much I enjoy your shows and I love buying your jewelry. My late grandfather was a rock hound and had his own shop which we grew up on the life and times of gems. Happy 14th Anniversary! I really love and own over 200 pieces of your beautiful jewelry; bought 7 more today. The lapis and turquoise pieces are exceptional as are your new mine finds. I too was very disappointed that the much anticipated turquoise bowls never made it to air. I was happy to hear that a smaller bowl will arrive in Nov and more larger bowls next year. How about a lapis, malachite or fluorite bowl or box? Keep up the great work!

Dear Jay, What is the best way to contact you? Need to talk (write) to you about black opal. Had a piece for over 40 years. Noone knew what it was. Many jewelers told me there was no such thing as black opal. When you had it as a today's special value I almost fell out of my chair. Daughter lost my ring set in a Princess Dianne style. Requests: 1)would love to buy both the turquoise bowl/lapis bowls 2)pls make more clip earrings-today's faceted amethyst that matches TS necklace would make great clip earrings 3)would love to buy the rough amethyt chunks you showed in the bowl, strung in a sterling necklace and earrings...also lapis chunks. 4)pls make most necklaces longer than 18: make 24-30 inch, plus extenders, so we can wear them over turtlenecks, sweaters, blouses. NOOOOO! Very upset. Waited to for show to get turquoise bowl. Why put it online first. HSN should keep policy consistent. Have always shown on TV before going online. If protocol changes we should be informed. Never miss a Jay King show, have many pcs. Also, my peppermint opal was stolen from luggage, is it ever coming back? Hello Jay: Last October I bought 2 of your amethyst necklaces. One was a 2 strand with a beautiful turquoise and purple abalone shell enhancer. The other was a 3 strand amethyst necklace. I wanted the 3 strand necklace but wanted the abalone shell enhancer on the other necklace. I couldn't, at the time, afford both so I had to send the 2 strand back with the abalone shell. Please, please, please offer that abalone shell enhancer again by itself to go with my necklace.

Happy 14th Anniversary, Jay! I have purchased a few of your beautiful Agate and Gemstone Beaded Necklaces recently. I really love them! I am so disappointed!! I have been checking the website daily and had planned my entire weekend around all of your shows, so that I could see and hopefully get a turquoise bowl. However, I woke up today to find that HSN had made the VERY POOR DECISTION (IMO) to list them overnight and now they are long gone. I don't know what's going on at HSN that they would make the decision to do something like this?? I too was looking forward to seeing the footage of how they were made...

As I have been watching Jay for many years, and might I add, buying many pieces from him, I was very upset because of the way the bowls were presented. THEY SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ON LINE. They should have been on his first tv appearance on a first come, first served basis. Did it ever occur to you people that not everyone has a computer. I have a computer and am somewhat savvy as to its operation. Dissapointed as in love. Is there any way I can pre-order one of any size?

Love your jewelry,only wear natural stones. I've looked 6+ yrs for a black choker, not too shiny-single/cpl strands, or crocheted-&found nothing. Could you could create one? Great by itself, or layered w/ any of the longer necklaces popular now, it'd fill a void in the market.

I didn't even get to learn anything about them at all, I can only see the picture in this blog and from what I remember from Jay's August show. bad decision whomever decide to put them on line and sell overnight. Happy Anniversay Jay! I came home from lunch today and am very lucky to have secured one - really didn't think I stood a chance. I REALLY wanted one for my Turquoise Display at our Cheyenne Gem and Mineral Show, so I am happy I will be able to now share it with the public too. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED that HSN chose to put them on line before you gave all of your customers a chance to see them. That is certainly unfair to people who have been so faithful to you. I called Customer Service many times today and they said they did not have it available as yet. Then, it was sold out. ABSOLUTELY NOT FAIR!!! I think I will re-evaluate my commitment as a customer.

I have been checking the internet everyday to see if they would come on and low and behold sometime today while I was busy working they put them on the internet. I am so upset the bowls were gone before the showed aired. I have been watching and waiting for the bowl for many months. It was made clear there would not be preorders and look what happened. Just seems to me there should have been a better process for getting one of the bowls. If a better system isn't developed for such a short supply item - you will lose me as a faithful customer.

I read in the blog that they were here and gone before your show was even scheduled to air. I honestly am upset at this. I think advanced orders should be offered to be filled in the months ahead.
