How we get the Greatest Gems
I just read John Bosco’s “Behind the Scenes” blog. It reminded me about how I wish I could video tape a typical day here at HSN and show it to you. There are so many dedicated people here who want to make you happy.
One of them is Sandy, our Gemstone Buyer, she is so beyond devoted to making our Gem selections special for you. Sandy is passionate about bringing you fine jewelry so you can have access to things you just don’t find in traditional jewelry stores. She knows you want the unusual and the beautiful. Sandy has become the go-to person in the gem trade globally for unusual finds. I’m not joking. Miner’s and site holders seek her out because they know she is always up for an unusual beautiful stone. That is why we have so many exotic stones. Try finding Neon Apatite at a retail store, much less on flex-pay.
Sandy reminds me of a rare book trader. She only wants excellent condition & quality when it comes to the gems that she brings to HSN. Yes, we have your precious Rubies, Emeralds, Sapphires -- the classics. We also have world class Tanzanite from one of the first site holders from the Tanzanite mines at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Type ‘Amijones’ in the search box and you’ll see them. Gorgeous! (Sorry, they are super limited.) He had been hoarding them for years before Sandy was able to talk him into selling them at HSN. I am so glad she did. She is quite persuasive.
Thank you for all of your comments about birthstones in my last blog.
So here is my next question to you:
What is the most sentimental piece of gemstone jewelry that you have? I bet for many of us it is our wedding ring, but I know you have at least one other treasure that holds meaning for you. Here is your chance to tell the world about it. What kind of stones are in it? How did it come to you? Did you inherit it or did you buy it for yourself?
My most sentimental necklace is the strand of peach pearls that my parents bought for me from some friends who specialized in colored pearls. I’ll never forget going to their home to pick up my new necklace and earrings that had been made just for me. Even though it was more than 25 years ago I still remember the whole episode (I was probably too young to own such a special necklace, but my parents didn’t want to pass up on the generous opportunity their friends were offering.) What memories do your most nostalgic favorites bring to mind?
By the way, the Gem Rocks Event is coming up in April 16th-19th. We have so many new things coming in gold and silver. Be sure to tune in on the 19th at midnight if you like Kunzite. I can’t wait. If you are a collector, or you just like to browse, you are not going to be disappointed.
Rock on! Shivan
