For the extra $100 get the upright dyson, I had the animal ball previously and this canister vac does not hold a candle to it. First off you have to empty the canister constantly as it is smaller and it is not a good vac for carpets. I have area rugs and would find that I had to go over the same spot four - five times just to get the stuff up. When I called HSN to try to exchange it to a differnt Dyson they informed me that they only do returns for 30 days, for a $400 vaccumn thats ridiculous!

I gave my Oreck to my daughter because it's awesome for her after her surgery and needing something easy to use. Hesitant to venture out to another expensive brand, I'm glad I did because Dyson is everything they say it is, it keeps it's power and what it pulls out of the carpet amazed me. I never imagined there would still be carpet fresh powder left behind by previous vac but there was, and a lot! Cons: 1) Will not do well for someone with back problems. I am 5'6" and found more strain to lower back and old lower back injury was achy after use (spoiled by Oreck?). 2) As a previous review noted, it will not "pull" carpet fiber up like other vacs so doesn't look freshly vacuumed. 3) The canister releases easily but make sure you have it down in a trash can or trash bag before opening because dirt/dust will gather around the top seal of canister and fall out on your floor/carpet. I still give this 5 Stars just for it's power and great features and will definitely purchase Dyson again.

I normally don't write online reviews for things like this but was so impressed with the performance of this machine, that I had to. We had been using a no frills bagless upright for the last two years that was in need of yet another roller belt and seemed to leave behind more than it picked up no matter how often the filter was shaken out. We have berber carpet and two flights of stairs so the DC23 Turbinehead features seemed appealing. I mean what other canister vac was designed to sit on the stairs without tipping as you worked ahead? It's obvious a lot of time and thought went into its design and it shows when you turn it on. This machine is solidly built, incredibly powerful for its size, and will pull debris and hair out of your carpet you will have to see to believe. I had some reluctance with the price at first but HSN's flex pay makes it very manageable.
