A place to learn and be heard
Hello Sewing Friends,

Baby, it’s cold outside! Family and friends are super busy gathering together and enjoying the Holidays. Everyone’s to-do list is a mile and a half long, so make it easier on yourself this year and personalize an item with embroidery. Here’s why embroidery is the perfect choice for gift-giving:
  1. You can customize almost anything!
  2. It’s fast! Once you set it, you can walk away while the machine works!
  3. You’ll get professional results at home for a fraction of the cost!
  4. Personalized gifts mean so much more to the receiver!
I’ll be starting a quilting section in January’s blog. Each month we’ll focus on a different technique or quilting style within a project  starting with a Concierge Foot Warmer.

EMBROIDERY SECRETS:
FUTURA embroidery with HyPERFONT is for embroidering any font located on your personal computer. To increase your computer’s font menu, click here and download the enormous file of 4,700 fonts for FREE. There are no use limitations so kick it out of the park and let us know about your creativity!

Futura Embroidery with Autopunch will enable you to stitch out digital artwork. You will have a library of digital artwork to get you started in your Futura software. Just click Autopunch on the dropdown menu and follow the wizard. When you are ready to expand your digital artwork library, look for clip art CDs or go online and type in what you are looking for in the navigation box and click go…they’ll be hundreds of pages and images…all for you to enjoy for FREE! The following snowflakes for example were downloaded from the Microsoft site and saved in a clipart folder.

  1. Use the Autopunch software wizard to stitch out these images onto felt.
  2. Remove stitched snowflake from the hoop.
  3. Add a second layer of felt underneath and sew around the snowflake to within an inch of completion.
  4. While it’s still on the machine, stuff a small amount of fiberfill into the ‘empty pillow’space created with the stitching.
  5. Using Pinking shears, clip around the outside of stitching.
  6. Attach a ribbon or loop to the top end and hang.
  7. Optional: Add Glamour Gems to give texture, dimension and sparkle to your snowflakes.

  2. Set Futura tension to “0”
  3. Skip the final thread guide located directly over the needle
MATCHING DECORATIVE STITCHING:

Hi Darlene, I sent an e-mail about the Brother Innovis 1500D tension. When can I expect an answer? Also, I have been trying and trying to get the item # 325-514, Trim-It-Clip-It scissors set for the last year and it is always sold out. When will these be available again at such a great price. I would dearly love a set. Can you tell me if they are available anywhere else at this price for this many pairs of embroidery scissors? Thanks for your time. Sue, Tennessee

On the SES1000, you receive all kinds of presser feet but I don't know what is what. Would it be possible to put a blurb in your next newsletter showing a picture of each foot and what they are for. For example, displaying the card on you show in pictureform in your newsletter.

Darlene, I love your shows on HSN. I learn so much from them. I'm having a problem with the tension on my Brother Innovis 1500D. The bobbin thread continues to show no matter what I do. And the stitches are irregular. I just got the machine back from cleaning and ever since, it is doing terrible. I tried using my book to set the tension and make adjustments but it hasn't worked.Any ideas? And could you have a show about the Innovis 1500D machine. It would be great to see you have a Demo about it

Darlene: Explain how to use serging with the SES1000. There is nothing in the manual discussing this topic. Also, please explain what size singer needles you use for embroidering on this machine, for serging, etc.

I bought the SES1000 and am having some troubles with the embroidery aspect. My question is what size needle do you use. I bought the embroidery thread but it keeps shredding on me in the machine. What is the cause?

I adore watching you whiz through projects and you really inspire me. I bought the Singer combination sewing/serger/embroidery machine but have not tried it yet. I will have to buy the right thread and figure out how much I will need. I love the gold and silver but I would like a variety also. Are the projects you show really as easy as you say they are? I also want to know what vitamins you take to have all that energy and enthusiasm all the time. You are like the Energizer Bunny!

In the new year, I would like to see more demonstrations of various project idea. Show the machines doing these projects. Your explination of the fusiable quilt grid inspired me to go out and attempt more difficult patterns, that without the grid would have been quite time consuming. This is the kind of ideas that keep viewers watching despite not needing a machine. More video blogs demonstrating your ideas would be awesome. Adding new projects to the current collection would be great!!

Thank you, Darlene, for giving us the website and directions for the snowflake ornaments. I bought the SES1000, have unpacked it, but have not tried it yet. I'm a little afraid. You're right the people at Singer are great. I had a number of questions and they were very helpful. They also said that buying this machine from HSN was a very good deal. I'm going to set up my machine this weekend, I'm sooooooo excited. Looking forward to your future presentations, I always learn sooooo much.
