Since 1959, the reverse on the penny has been an image of the Lincoln Memorial designed by Frank Gasparro. That changed in 2009.
2009 marks the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth and the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Cent. As part of the celebration, the United States Mint is issuing 4 different reverse designs
The obverse will retain the profile of President Abraham Lincoln by Victor David Brenner
Copper composition - made of .95 copper, .05 tin and zinc; according to the United States Mint, it struck a quantity of cents for collectors "with the exact metallic content as the 1-cent coin contained in 1909." Each of the cents in this collection have the original 1909 composition
Proof condition - struck at least twice on highly polished coin blanks to bring out the mirrored background and high-relief images
Satin finish - distinctive from regular coins because the dies are sandblasted with a fine mixture of sand and glass beads; also known as Specimen State (SP) or called "burnished finish" by the United States Mint
Measure approx. 19mm (0.75") in diameter
