2008 Bald Eagle Proof Silver Dollar

This commemorative coin was minted to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act of 1973 and the removal of the Bald Eagle from the Endangered Species List. Surcharges from the original program were paid to the American Eagle Foundation of Tennessee to enable it to continue to save and protect Bald Eagles nationally.

2008 Bald Eagle Proof Silver Dollar Features:

• Obverse - portrays a mature Bald Eagle in flight
• Reverse - shows the original rendition of the Great Seal of the United States that was in use from 1782 to 1841
• Proof coin - made exclusively for collectors by the United States Mint, these coins are not intended for circulation; struck at least twice on highly polished coin blanks to bring out the mirrored background and high-relief images 
• Measures approx. 38.1mm (1-1/2") in diameter
• Weighs approx. 26.73g (.944 oz.)
• Contains approx. 1 oz. of .900 pure silver
• Encapsulated 
• Original government packaging, including a certificate of authenticity
• Produced by the Philadelphia Mint
