If you think you've seen it all in the coin collecting world - think again. Our Satin Finish Kennedy Half Dollars offer a historic new way to collect these prized, uncirculated treasures. One hard case roll holds 20 of these special coins - 10 from Philadelphia and 10 from Denver.
The Franklin silver half dollar was replaced by the John F. Kennedy coin in 1964, shortly after the President's assassination. His portrait is the same one as used by the United States Mint honoring Kennedy's inauguration, and it was personally approved by widow Jacqueline. The coin's first year was the only one in which it was minted of 90% silver due to rising costs of the metal. For the next five years, silver content was reduced to 40%. And then in 1970 it was completely removed - replaced by a copper-nickel composite as are the coins in this set.
Since the late 1990's no Kennedy Half Dollars have been issued by the United States government for circulation. They are only available in mint sets created for collectors. The satin finish is created as the Mint sandblasts the dies with glass to produce a historic finish. The finish makes these coins distinguishable from their uncirculated counterparts and increases their long-term collector value. More details on the 2005 Satin Finish Kennedy Banker's Roll include:
