- Beautiful design - the first circulating coin to feature an
identifiable Native American. Sacagawea was the Native American guide who
accompanied the Lewis & Clark Expedition and the coin depicts Sacagawea with
her baby, Jean Baptiste, on her back. The reverse of the coin features an
American eagle in flight, as well as 17 stars. This unusual number of stars
symbolizes the 17 states in the Union at the time of Sacagawea's journey with
the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
- Unique coins - of special importance, the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and
2006 coins from the Philadelphia and Denver Mints were not released to the
general public. They were made in small quantities exclusively for collectors
and can not be found in circulation. Also included are the Proof coins from each
of the first 7 years of issue as well as the 2005 satin finish Sacagaweas.
- Proof - marvel at the mirror-like finishes on these proof coins, the result
of 2 or more stampings on special polished blanks during the minting process.
Because of the extra time it takes to strike each coin, only a limited number of
proof copies are produced each year.
- Satin finish - different and distinctive from regular coins because the dies
are sandblasted with a fine mixture of sand and glass beads
- Encapsulated in clear acrylic
- Certificate of authenticity
- Display box
- Weighs approx. .26 oz. each
- Measures approx. 1.03" in diameter each
