Beauty & the Heat
Melt-Proof Makeup
1. Make your ordinary foundation match your skin come summer by blending in a dot of non-shimmery liquid bronzer.
2. Prevent eye shadow from creasing by applying a base of foundation and translucent powder to the lids before brushing on powder shadow, which holds up much better than cream in the heat. Whatever you do, don‚t tap concealer over the lids˜it will accentuate every little line and make lids look unnaturally heavy.
3. To keep oil slicks in check, dab skin throughout the day with a clean powder puff or blotting papers instead of powder, which will just cake as more is added.
Hot Weather Hair
1. Keep hair color from fading or turning brassy by adding a layer of protection before heading outside: A styling cream with UV filters, and even ordinary sunscreen, will keep you covered.
2. Protect hair from the drying effects of pool and ocean water by saturating it with a shower, hose, or bottled water before diving in.
3. To make hair shine with no risk of overdoing it, squirt a drop of glossing serum in your hands, rub them together, then scrape the bristles of a hairbrush across your palm and run it through your hair.
Summer Skin
1. Always wash your face with warm water. And cold water, despite what your friends in middle school said, will not close pores.
2. Make the most of your moisturizer by slathering it on immediately after washing your face, while skin is still damp—this seals water in place and allows you to use less lotion.
3. Save the anti-aging retinol and alpha hydroxy and glycolic acids for nighttime˜they make skin more sensitive to sunlight.
