- Presidential dollar series - celebrates each non-living U.S. President, issued in the order the Presidents served at a rate of 4 per year
- Design - similar in size and color to the Sacagawea, with no inscription on the obverse or face side
- "In God We Trust," "E Pluribus Unum," the issue year and the mint mark on the edge
- Edge inscriptions are in incuse or sunk into the surface
- Obverse features an image of James Madison, reverse features an image of the Statue of Liberty
